Regional Queensland pool gains programming versatility from smart upgrade

May 14th, 2026

A regional North Queensland pool has installed a modular static composite wall that enables the old 33-metre pool to be used as a 25-metre pool while creating additional recreational and program space.

Located in the Whitsunday Region of North Queensland, the Collinsville Memorial Pool has undergone a smart upgrade that has dramatically increased the facility’s programming capability and community access.

As well as the new 25-metre pool space enabling competitive swimming, learn-to-swim programs and recreational use can occur simultaneously in the remaining space.

The installation was completed in just three days, demonstrating how targeted infrastructure upgrades can unlock new potential within existing aquatic facilities – particularly in regional communities where maximising facility use is critical.

This project marks the first installation of its kind in Australia for Fluidra Commercial. The company intentionally waited before widely promoting the solution to ensure the system performed successfully in a live operational environment and delivered meaningful benefits for both operators and the community.

Jenny Rush, pool operator from Aquatic Rush, says the Collinsville Memorial Pool installation has exceeded expectations.

“Since installing the Static Composite Wall at the Collinsville Memorial Pool, we’ve been able to run recognised 25-metre competitions while still keeping space for learn-to-swim and junior programs,” she says.

“It has significantly increased the number of programs we can offer and brought more patrons through the facility than ever before. The wall has transformed how we operate the pool, and we would highly recommend other aquatic facilities consider the same solution.”

Aquatic facilities across Australia are increasingly evolving into versatile community hubs that must cater for diverse users – from competitive swimmers to families and learn-to-swim participants. Solutions such as modular pool walls allow operators to increase flexibility and programming capacity without major structural redevelopment.
