NSW rebate drives 244 per cent increase in VS pool pump upgrades

Waterco domestic water care product manager George Flory says Swimart has seen an increase of 244 per cent in their customers replacing single-speed pool pumps with energy-efficient variable speed models when compared with the same period last year.

He says that all 29 NSW Swimart stores and the network’s mobile technicians successfully completed specialist training supporting the program.

The initiative brings together the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), Waterco, Electric Future, Swimart and OnPoint Compliance.

Flory points out that as both a manufacturer of energy-efficient pool equipment and franchisor of the Swimart pool and spa network, Waterco contributed insights spanning product development, retail engagement, installation and customer behaviour.

“The results demonstrate the importance of combining financial incentives with professional and practical industry support,” he says.

“Variable-speed pumps have been available for many years, but many pool owners remain unaware of how much energy their existing pump may be using. The rebate provides an incentive to upgrade, while trained technicians help customers select, install and operate the technology effectively.”

Electric Future national business development manager Angus Taylor says the 244 per cent increase shows what can be achieved when government policy is supported by established industry networks.

OnPoint Compliance developed the framework supporting installer documentation, evidence collection and independent verification.

The initiative provides a potential blueprint for future household energy-efficiency programs by combining government incentives with technical expertise, trained local delivery and robust compliance.
